On Motherhood, Nursing, Nationalities, and Routines Part 2

Sorry for the lack of post..

Here is the part two of On Motherhood, Nursing, Nationalities, and Routines.

This month I will be assigned to work in the palace, I will spend the last week of this month in a place that I hate to go and most especially to work. Because of what????? simply because I hate to be slave ( no one wants anyway) but what can I do? I don't have the power and authority to change the decision of my Nurse Manager! I tried to talk to her, I stated my reasons why I don't want to work there. She was symphatetic but I believe she made the decision and that's final.

Ever wonder why I hate that place? Let me state the reasons why:

1) I have to carry the IVAC pump while the Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN) is running through my patient' Central Venous Line (CVL) because nobody is allowed to ask the boy to stop playing even if the TPN is still on. He is a toddler anyway.

2)I have to wait for the mother's decision when and where to change the dressing of the CVL.

3) I have to be extra careful in touching the child while he is sleeping even if the nappy is full of urine and foul smelling stool. Most of the time the nurses cannot ignore it and will end up changing the nappy while the child is screaming.

4) I have to eat the food whenever the child will offer me something to munch.

5) I have to pretend that it is okay with me to stay with the child while the family is entertaining their visitors. I will look like a stupid moron. It sucks.

6) I have to abide whatever the madame's decision regarding the size of dressing that I must apply on the CVL area ( interferes with the nursing care)

7) I have to guide and help the child while walking because he can't carry his big tummy anymore. If he wants to play outside, I have to ignore the heat of the sun.

8) I am not allowed to control the temperature of the A/C even if it is already cold,it must be 18 degree celcius or lower at all times.

10)etc..etc.............

And that's not the end of story... one shaikha delivered last month( not coming from the royal family mentioned above), the palace nurse will be having her vacation next month and she needs a reliever. Bingo! they decided to take one nurse from our unit every month. This one is really disgusting! There is no need for the nurse, it is a normal newborn... a nanny can take care of the baby. And how about the VIP Nurses? They can be pulled out from their post. Why us?

This people cannot understand that we are not palace nurses, it is never ever stipulated in our contract and even in the job description that we need to take care of the babies in the palace or wherever they like. This is so unfair! All of us received an answer that goes like this : " What can we do? We are in a very strange country" .
